PROFILE: Established in 1988, the Richard P. and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation is a family foundation based in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Kimmel couple worked to improve the quality of life in communities and on farms during their 66 years together. The Kimmel community includes the Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard, Kimmel Education Research Center and Kregel Windmill Factory. The foundation aims to “support innovative ideas that promise substantial improvements in the quality of community and rural life in Nebraska and Iowa.” It funds local efforts for education, arts, agriculture, human services and humanities.

The Richard P. and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation prefers to fund interdisciplinary approaches, collaborations and applications of new research within its five focus area. Most grants are for program support, with low priority given for general operating support. Education grants support art, agriculture and business programs. Art grants fund art education, appreciation and exhibition projects. Agriculture grants mostly support horticulture and address changes in agricultural practices. Human services grants target broad community improvements, while humanities grants focus on the teaching and accessibility of humanities for underserved audiences.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $600,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on Iowa and Nebraska.
