According to available tax filings, the foundation awarded $2.85 million in grants in 2017.

BACKGROUND:  Paul Shiverick graduated from Northwestern University and received an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth. He worked at the Bank of New York and Atwood Oceanics before joining the investment industry. Shiverick is a co-founder of Seminole Capital.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Paul Shiverick is now on the board of American Federation for Children, a Betsy DeVos-chaired organization. Grantmaking out of the couple’s Shelter Hill Foundation heavily features schools and education advocacy organizations.  Grantees have included Teach for America, St. Pius X Catholic High School, Charleston School for Math and Science, Orange Grove Elementary Charter School, Catholic Partnership Schools, Alliance for School Choice, and the Hawken School, where he sits on the board.

The couple also supports Shiverick’s alma mater Dartmouth. Other grantees have included MIT School of Engineering, Lake Forest College, and Mount Holyoke, Betsy Shiverick’s alma mater.

HEALTH: Shiverick is co-chair of Cancer Research Institute, which the family supports through their foundation. Shiverick’s grandfather was chairman of Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases (now Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center) for two decades. Other grantees have included Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation and National MS Society.

OTHER: Apart from these grantmaking areas, the couple has also supported arts organizations like Met Opera and Henry Morrison Flagler Museum.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect the couple’s focus on education to continue.
