PROFILE: Established in 1947, the June Rockwell Levy Foundation is a private family foundation incorporated based in Providence, Rhode Island. Founder Austin T. Levy was involved in the textile mill business, lectured on industrial relations and employee wages, and managed industrial buildings in Rhode Island. His wife, June Rockwell Levy, was involved in local organizations and joined her husband in giving to Rhode Island hospitals, schools, and arts centers. Its grantmaking interests include the arts, education, health, children, and social services.

The foundation gives broadly to a wide variety of local groups within this part of the state. However, the foundation does not make grants to public schools or charter schools. Applicants can apply for funding once per calendar year. Past support has gone to the Community Care Alliance, Amos House, Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center, Between the Cracks, and the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket.

Foundation grants tend to be between $5,000 and $25,000, and grants go to a mix of large nonprofits and grassroots groups. To learn more about this foundation’s giving, examine the funder’s recent tax records. The Levy Foundation prioritizes grantmaking in Providence County, Rhode Island.

To apply for Levy Foundation funding, submit an application electronically through the Rhode Island Foundation’s system, which manages the application process for the Levy Foundation. In addition to the online application, grantseekers must also complete a financial summary form. This funder reviews grant applications four times per year, and the application deadlines are January 15, April 15, August 15, and October 15. Grantseekers can direct general questions to the foundation, which is “care of” the Rhode Island Foundation at 401-427-4018 or JRL@RIFoundation.org.
